After Ford has confirmed their 2024 Ford F-150 Lightning existence, everyone has been waiting in giddy expectation. After all, the company has been known to produce punchy and powerful gas powered pickup trucks that no one has doubted about, so will they be able to pull up a good work with full electric technology? The F-150 Lightning would be their first and their full electric vehicle, which signifies a complete transformation for the company to produce a new technology.
As if it weren’t a challenging task for them, they need to deal with the fact that they are going to face harsh competition from the others. Some of the popular brands have ‘announced’ their on-going production and everyone seems to be better in terms of speed and strength. Will Ford and their F-150 Lightning survive the rivalry?
The Challenging Rivalry
Although a lot of people think that Ford is the first auto manufacturer that makes the (full) electric truck, it’s not completely true. Rivian is actually the first one producing the full electric truck with their Rivian R1T 2022 Launch Edition. This is an amazing (and powerful) electric truck having punchy offroad abilities and strength.
But then again, although the F-150 Lightning isn’t the first electric truck, it’s more affordable than the Rivian. Not to mention that it offers many amazing and promising features that other names don’t have. Ford must face competition from RAM 1500, though, because the RAM 1500 is said to be a better full size and electric truck. And when we are talking about coverage distance, RAM 1500 promises to cover 500 miles – definitely higher than the promised 300 miles of F-150 Lightning.
In terms of price, the Rivian Launch Edition is definitely costlier. The starting price is set at around $85,000. The performance specs are incredible and so are all of the offered features. However, the price may not suit most American drivers. The most inexpensive R1T would be the R1T Explore with still hefty tag of $67,500. When compared to the Rivian, F-150 Lightning has several advantages. Not only the price tags are more favorable, but the brand has gained expansive popularity than its competitors.
The Possible Updated Work
Despite the rivalry among the modern and future electric trucks, it’s possible that the new 2024 Lightning would get some redesigned work. It isn’t confirmed just yet and everything is just a rumor, but such a change is possibly happening. Many people have stated that Ford has been thinking about redesigning their electric truck for refreshing appearance. It remains unclear of what kind of change is happening to the truck, but one of those transformations may include battery. The new battery would be different from the one currently used for the F-150.
Ford seems serious about their 2024 Ford F-150 Lightning because they don’t only target the 2024 model, but they are even thinking about the upcoming 2025 model. The truck offers all wheel driving system for their standard. The base model would be packed with two (electric) motors, enabling the vehicle to generate 426 hp and 775 Nm of torque. The truck will also have improved towing and payload capacity. Even the base trim should be able to carry around 1,800 pounds within its 5.5 footbed and has 7,700 pounds of towing ability. If you are willing to upgrade it, you can even enjoy higher 563 hp and 10,000 pounds of towing ability.
Price and Release Date
Rumor has it that the Lightning is set to start at around $40,000 for the base trim. That’s a huge difference from RIvian. Release date hasn’t been known or revealed, but we should know soon about 2024 Ford F-150 Lightning soon enough.
