It has finally been confirmed that 2024 RAM 1500 EV would be available soon, right in the middle of 2024 – or some time within the year. The company has confirmed that their popular full size 1500 truck would be coming with all electric power. The 2024 model doesn’t signify the immediate replacement of the combustion models, but it’s obvious that the company is thinking about their long term future, and it’s the battery electric type.
The Updated Plan
Although the company doesn’t say much about their future plan up to this point, it’s obvious that they are planning on electrifying all of their lines along the way. Being a part of Stellantis has made them aware of the importance of switching to the new power, and it means the entire transformation of the production.
Some of the expected changes happening to the RAM would be a new platform, which is quite obvious, as well as the fast charging feature that is claimed to reach 150 kW. And such number would be arranged to be the standard feature for the vehicle. You can also expect a charge station locator, EV (trip) energy monitor, preconditioning, and also several options for the driving modes.
What’s impressive is the driving range. When Ford claimed that their new F-150 Lightning is able to cover 300 miles of distance, we all go wow. That’s an impressive number. And then GMC with their Hummer EV stated that they can even reach 350 miles. That’s even more amazing. But then RAM said that they are going to try 500 miles, and we are blown away! If it’s true that the truck is able to reach such an amazing number, people would go in line to get their hands on the vehicle.
The Journey of RAM 1500 EV
The first debut of RAM 1500 EV took place in Chicago Auto Show 2022, back then in February. At that time, RAM Trucks CEO, Mike Koval Jr. invited RAM fans to provide insight and feedbacks so they can create the most ideal electric RAM EV models. It’s highly likely that the 2024 RAM 1500 EV is the result for fans’ feedbacks. This future electric vehicle is versatile; perfect for play and work.
Some of the main rivals of the new pickup truck would be Hummer EV, Rivian R1T, Chevy Silverado EV, and Ford F-150 Lightning. These are serious names in the industry, so the company should seriously think about the future development of their 1500.
Powertrain and Performance
The new 2024 model would be the first ever battery and electric vehicle from the brand. The CEO stated that this would definitely be the best EV pickup although it may not be the first one in the line. Although the company has confirmed that the vehicle would be offered with optional (range) extender, they didn’t say whether the range extender is already included within the 500 miles (estimated) range.
In case you don’t know it, range extender refers to a combustion engine responsible for recharging the batteries, but it doesn’t power the driving wheels. One of the biggest problems with electric truck is the decreased electric range when towing is involved. With the engine range extender, such an issue can be mitigated because the engine can be used to recharge the batteries.
Design and Layout
The vehicle is constructed on the new STLA frame, used for all big vehicles with body on frame construction. Although the company has released an image showing off enough space for 3 motors, there are only 2 motors being shown on. Moreover, just like the Ford F-150 Lightning, the vehicle has enough room for the spare tire (the full size one) located under the rear bumper. But for further details, we should wait for official reveal of 2024 RAM 1500 EV to be completely sure.
