What is Kia’s planning for their 2024 Kia Carnival? Kia has confirmed that they are going to make a hybrid version since 2020. And up to 2021, they stated it that way. It’s in 2022 that they finally confirmed that they are going to make a hydrogen-powered Carnival, which is coming as the 2024 model. What do we know about the future electric MPV, after all?
Kia’s Future Plan
Although Hyundai Motor Group has been expanding their lineups BEV quite significantly and fast, they also make plans for launching several FCEV (Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle) hydrogen models too. A report in September 2022 stated that the company has already prepared the FCEV Carnival, and they are going to release it after they are done with hydrogen military vehicles.
During DX Korea 2022, which took place between 21st and 25th September 2022, the company displayed their hydrogen fuel products, including Hydrogen Fuel Cell ATV, Generator, and Truck defense concepts. Before, Hyundai announced Staria Fuel Cell during the world premiere Staria on the 13th of April 2021. Then, during IAA 2021 on the 6th September 2021, Hyundai planned on launching a (new) Nexo and MPG with hydrogen fuel cell technology (predicted to be Staria Fuel Cell) in 2023. In 2025, they plan on launching a big SUV (with the same technology). Technically, the FCEV Carnival is related to Staria Hyundai Fuel Cell.
About Carnival EV
Some sources say that the company’s manufacturing plant, the AutoLand plant (located in Gwangmyeong) has been designed as their Kia EV strategy’s center. Not only the EV9 would be produced in this factory, but big chances that the new 2024 Kia Carnival would also be manufactured at the same place. After all, Kia plans on converting the future Carnival to electric and also hybrid models. The AutoLand Gwangmyeong is the perfect spot because it’s the one responsible for manufacturing diesel and gas Carnival.
Carnival Hybrid
Kia may make a 2024 Kia Carnival hybrid to achieve the zero emission purpose. According to reports, Kia is busy preparing Carnival hybrid because they are thinking about discontinuing the four door version later. But Kia hasn’t made any official confirmation about it. The Carnival hybrid may be coming with gas turbocharged unit with 1.6 liter capacity together with an electric motor, which is basically identical to Sorento hybrid as well as Sportage hybrid. But rather than using the auto 6 speed transmission, the hybrid will likely use the auto 8 speed type.
Q and A
Q: Has Kia provided the information about the future Carnival’s design?
A: Not yet. There have been several rendering images of the car, but they aren’t from Kia officially. Some of the renders show the gas unit Carnival being converted to EV but they aren’t the official layout products from the company.
Q: Will Kia launch the Carnival in other markets besides North America?
A: Yes, there have been several talks about the vehicle make it to the Australian market this far. Further details are still unknown for other markets. If we want to be sure about the future Carnival launch, let’s wait for Kia to reveal their upcoming 2024 Kia Carnival manufacturing process.
