There have been several updates and new information about the 2024 Ford Mustang GT after the company debuted the vehicle last September. Considering that the company tried so hard keeping the nameplate alive, it’s quite normal that we expect quite a lot from it. Mustang has been known for its reputation as a solid muscle ride with trusted performance. And with the future prospect of modern stuff and electrification, a lot of people are hopeful that the Mustang they know won’t change much.
The Updated Plan
Back then in September 2022, the Blue Oval introduced their new redesigned Mustang during Detroit Auto Show. They claimed that it was the strongest V8 Mustang ever designed with 5.0 liter capacity. However, they didn’t say anything about the detailed output and everything. It’s a good thing that they have just revealed it. It turns out that this naturally aspirated unit would be generating 486 hp, which is quite a bombastic figure
Powertrain and Performance
One thing about 2024 Ford Mustang GT that people are excited about is the power. The new GT is said to generate 486 hp, which is the new record for the line. The previous Mustang Bullitt 2019 was able to produce 2019, while the Mustang Mach 1 2021 was able to generate the same 480 hp. The ‘only’ increase of 6 hp may seem little, but it actually affects the overall performance of the muscle ride.
This new output has put a higher performance mark for the GT. The current model was initially offered with V8 unit with 460 hp, but unfortunately, it was downgraded in 2022 to 450 hp because of the stricter emission regulations. The Mach 1 somewhat lost 10 hp too this year, which makes it ‘only’ producing 470 hp in total.
Boost of Power
The (new) dual throttle body look and design with the offered active valve (performance) exhaust system are said to be responsible for the promising performance and power boost for the upcoming GT. And it seems that it’s not the only outcome and achievement that the company is able to do.
Dark Horse Performance Model
It’s unfortunate that Mustang hasn’t revealed further details about their new GT, but they do have a lot of plans concerning their future production. One of the most talked about models would be the Dark Horse, which sits above the GT. According to plans, this is the V8 unit with 5.0 liter capacity that would purely generate 500 hp. It would undergo modifications and tweaks to boost and support its top-notch performance and it would include forged piston rods (allowing higher pressure on the cylinder) and special crankshaft. To supports its performance, it would come with stronger and tougher camshafts that can deal with the hard operation, which is close to the 7,500 rpm (redline).
Trim Levels and Price
The company hasn’t said anything about the tag price, but if you don’t really want a super fast ride, you can go with the entry level that runs on four cylinder turbocharged EcoBoost unit with 2.3 liter capacity, able to generate 315 hp and around 350 Nm of torque.
Having the GT and the Dark Horse may seem like a promising future from this Blue Oval. With new powertrains and new designs, both these models surely have a lot of offer. The new camshafts, new crankshafts, and forget (connecting) rods of the Dark Horse are taken from Shelby GT500 so it can generate 500 hp and 418 Nm of torque. The only model with naturally aspirated unit that has more power would be Shelby GT350, running on flat plane V8 Coyote derived unit with 5.2 liter capacity that can generate 526 hp and 429 Nm of torque.
Price and Release Date
Up until now, there hasn’t been any information about the exact price tag. But we are talking about Mustang, so you need to prepare the budgets. For the release date, there is no exact date either. But the company plans on releasing the ride in summer time of 2023. If everything goes as scheduled, you should get the first look of 2024 Ford Mustang GT in several months only.
