Rumor has it that the 2024 Mini Countryman would be coming with a redesigned appearance. Although the company hasn’t confirmed it, there have been several spy shots available on the net, showing off the prototype vehicles in camo doing the testing stage. What can we learn about the new Countryman?
Spotted Spy Shots
In the latest spy images, the suspected prototype of the Countryman has been designed in a performance oriented model. It’s proven through the quad exhaust tips, brake package, and also the big appearance wheel. It’s possible that the prototype is the Cooper S grade because the (more powerful) John Cooper Works variant won’t make it to launch.
The redesigned Countryman would be designed longer than the now existing generation. The extra length is focusing on the wheelbase, which means that there would be more cabin space to be expected. For the cabin, you can see a slight image of the dashboard – although not much. On the dashboard, you will see the head up display unit located on the front area of the driver. But it’s also possible that it’s only a screen.
Changes to the Size and Dimension
Why does the company make the bigger version of the Countryman? It’s meant to boost the appeal of the ride, especially in more markets. The North American market, after all, is always attracted to the bigger and burlier vehicle. But the company also does it to provide extra space and more ways for the smaller crossover. The company has had this concept and they are going to reveal it this year.
New Small Crossover Variant?
The small crossover is designed to be a (dedicated) electric vehicle that is developed and designed by Spotlight Automotive. This is the Chinese joint venture between Great Wall Motors and Mini that was set up back then in 2019. This small crossover is planned to due in 2023. Rumor has it that the company plans on using Paceman nameplate, which means that they are likely reviving it again.
Powertrain and Performance
If everything goes as planned, the redesigned 2024 Mini Countryman is likely coming with electric version. The company is still providing the gas version, but they are going to provide the plug in hybrid version. The base trim level would be running on inline three turbocharged unit with 1.5 liter capacity, which is basically the same powertrain as before. The Cooper S will likely run on inline four turbocharged unit with 2.0 liter capacity. The company is busy focusing on the electric high performance powertrain for the JCW models in the future.
Q and A
Q: When is the Countryman going to be launched?
A: It’s likely due in around 2023, with the exact date and time unknown.
Q: The 2024 Countryman still offers gas power along with the hybrid system. Does it mean that the 2025 model would have the same arrangement?
A: It’s unlikely. The company plans on releasing all electric lineups in 2025. Rumor has it that the 2024 Mini Countryman would be the last one coming with gas unit.
