According to many sources, the 2024 Ford Edge may be discontinued in the US market, but it’s a different story for the Chinese market. The Chinese auto market would get a new 2024 model with predicted hybrid and EcoBoost unit (of 2.0 liter capacity). Despite its popularity, Ford decided that they are going to put a stop to Edge’s production; at least for the American auto market, but they are still going to make one for the other markets.
The Updated Plan
If everything goes as planned, the future Edge would still be coming with a three row seating vehicle. Despite American loss over the Edge, the style and construction would be the basic foundation for the Lincoln Nautilus 2024 model, designed as a Chinese import. The new Nautilus would be coming with the same shared underpinning, the hybrid and also 2.0 liter capacity. These constructions are based on the C2, which is claimed to be the most flexible and prolific platform that Ford has ever used.
Design and Style
There have been several images of the new midsize SUV on the net. The SUV seems to get new look, including electric (and pop-out) door handles. The front fascia seems redesigned, whose inspiration was taken from the Explorer, Equator Sport/Equator, and Evos. The headlights look sleek, blended nicely with the existing grille. This design is similar to the style used by Hyundai Tucson.
What makes it more interesting is the floating roof. The beltline abruptly rises right on the C-pillar before it comes down gradually to the D-pillar. The vehicle may come with 20 inch wheels (for the silver) while it would be 19 inch for the blue.
Powertrain and Performance
Although the official confirmation hasn’t been available, it seems that the future 2024 Ford Edge would be running on gas turbocharged unit with 2.0 liter capacity, delivering 248 hp. The details about the performance are still unknown, so we should wait. Rumor also has it that there would be a more expensive Edge with 7 seats layout, while the cheaper version would offer 5 seats.
Q and A
Q: Since when has the Edge existed?
A: This second gen Edge was first introduced in 2015, and it got a facelift upgrade in 2019. Even with updated infotainment system with 12 inch touchscreen as the standard in 2021, you have to admit that Edge is basically an outdated vehicle.
Q: When will the Edge be introduced to the public?
A: It’s basically unclear, but considering that Guangzhou Motor Show 2022 is around the corner, it would be obvious to introduce the vehicle during the event.
Q: Does it mean that there will never be 2024 model for the American auto market?
A: It’s not clear, obviously. Up until now, there is no information about American availability. There is also a possibility that the Dearborn auto manufacturer may sell a completely different and separate model.
Although there are rumors stating that Ford COULD drop or eliminate the Edge from the company’s lineup, the company has never confirmed it until now. So, I guess we just have to wait for the official announcement about 2024 Ford Edge.
