What does Audi have in store for their upcoming 2024 Audi Q5? Since the company also plans on electrifying their lineups, they need to start working on their projects. Audi pledges to convert their productions to EV only starting from 2026, which means that every new model within the next 4 years would have the last ones with combustion units. This is basically the case of Q5, whose transition is expected to take place in 2023. But before the company can be really sure about their future electrification project, they need to undergo tons of tests. And this is what happens to the Q5.
The Testing Body
The prototype showed off production body, but without the final taillights. The camouflage may function as a diversion because the front design appearance doesn’t look like any signature characteristics of Audi or whatsoever. If you see the exposed areas, you can see plastic-y big vertical parts which function as visual effect of air intakes, but they don’t actually have any significant role aside from being a spot for the parking sensors.
If you take a look at the back, the familiar wraparound tailgate is gone because the hatch doesn’t seem to be completely integrated to the taillights completely. The tailgate itself is quite wide but it seems that the company ditches the familiar trait of the design in order to create more traditional and simpler look. The provisional taillights look connected via a (light) bar which is somewhat hiding under the heavy cover, but details are still unknown.
Moreover, the prototype vehicle comes with dual exhaust for delivering sportier effect, which is likely running on gas unit. From these signs and hints, we can see that Audi still offers their 2024 Audi Q5 with diesels, especially in European auto markets because such oil burner is still considered super popular there.
Powertrain and Performance
Hybrid power is likely, but Audi hasn’t said anything about it. If it’s true, they would offer gas unit with 2.0 liter capacity for plug in hybrid. The current one has 39 miles of electric power with only 23 miles for the EPA. The future 2024 Audi Q5, however, is expected to deliver 62 miles and 35 miles for the EPA.
If there is hybrid power, it would be more eco-friendly. The company wants to make sure that their future electrified lineups can be accepted in global auto markets, especially in the US and Europe. And with the stricter Euro 7 (emission) norms, they will have to be serious about it.
