2025 BMW I8: Is Beemer Skipping the Model Year?

It’s highly likely that there won’t be a 2025 BMW i8 model year, but it would be immediately a new 2026 model year instead. The company is said to develop a completely new (and fully redesigned) 2024 model, and there has been an ongoing rumor about the 2026 model. Strange enough, the information about the 2025 model year is very limited – almost none. It’s not really surprising if many auto enthusiasts believe that the auto maker may skip the 2025 model so they can focus on the future 2026 model, which is said to have a new technology and possibly a new platform too.

About the 2024 i8

The 2024 i8 is designed as a new and full sporty ride from the company. It has all the bells and whistles, including impressive interior cabin, luxurious exterior appearance, and more advanced technologies. The 2024 model is claimed to be completely different from any of the precious i8 gen. with a plug in hybrid system, sportier visual look, and also stronger punch, this model definitely has a lot of things to offer.  Beemer is very proud of its electric system, claiming that the i8 has better and longer electric range. So, expect the 2024 model to deliver only the best combo of speed and performance.

Price and Launch Date

Considering that the new designed i8 would be a 2024 model year, it’s likely that it launches sometime in 2023. However, the auto maker hasn’t made any official announcement or release about the launch although many of the photos have been circling on the net.

In terms of price, don’t expect this ride to be cheap. As one of the most promising and also ‘futuristic’ models from Beemer, you should expect the company to set a pretty high price standard. There is a possibility that it may start from more than $150,000.

The 2024 i8 would be offered in two different trim levels: possibly a coupe and a roadster. The base trim is predicted to start from around $160,000. The coupe may be around $160,000 while the roadster may cost around $180,000.  But there is always a possibility that it may not be as high, considering that the auto maker hasn’t said anything about it.

Powertrain and Performance

With the 2024 model is still on its way, it’s kind of difficult to tell what the future holds for the 2025 BMW i8. However, the 2024 model gets serious updates and even drastic transformation. If there is going to be a 2025 model, it’s most likely a carryover, which means that you can expect the same features and specs as the 2024 model.

However, as it was mentioned before, there is also a chance that Beemer may not make the 2025 model as they will skip it so they can move on and focus on the 2026 model. If this is the case, then we won’t have any 2025 model year at all. This isn’t an entirely a bad case if it can make Beemer ultra focus on their next development with i8 2026 model year.

The 2024 i8 would be running on plug in hybrid technology, claimed to be able to cover 62 miles of distance in full electric power. It’s possible that it would have 3 (electric) motors paired with a four cylinder turbocharged unit with 1.5 liter capacity, delivering 591 hp and all wheel driving system. The layout may involve the gas unit and one motor to spin the rear wheels while the other two motors spin the front. With this scheme, this sporty ride is expected to deliver an amazing job. It’s claimed to reach 62 mph within 3 seconds only – which is highly impressive.

However, you should remember that the current i8 is running on three cylinder unit with 1.5 liter capacity that delivers 369 hp. It can only cover 18 miles of distance in full electric mode. If the future model is as what they say, then it’s an impressive improvement that can make the i8 more enjoyable and punchier.

For now, there is nothing to say or claim about the 2025 BMW i8 except for the fact that we should be looking forward to the 2024 model and see what the company has to say about their future production.
