Bad news for Focus’ fans as the 2025 Ford Focus may be the end of the family vehicle. Ford has made an official announcement that they will stop making the Focus, right in 2025, because they want to focus on electric models. With the announcement, comes more questions. Does it mean that Ford is still making the 2025 model and launch it in 2024 as their final ‘goodbye’ production? Does it also mean that they will stop making the regular internal combustion model, but still keeping the Focus’ nameplate for their future electric lineups? Does it mean they will stop making the Focus completely; not using its name anymore? The future is still unclear, and becomes pretty bleak, for Focus’ lovers.
The Upcoming Manufacturing Plan
Besides the official announcement that they are going to stop making the Focus, there is also another rumor that the company may sell their Saarlouis plant (located in Germany). This facility is the one responsible for making the Focus.
Ford’s main reason is that they want to focus completely in developing electric powertrains because they have developed a plan to offer electric lineups before the decade ends. Since they want to focus entirely on electric platform, and also because the Focus’ sales numbers are no longer satisfying, they have to make a crucial decision, and axing the Focus seems like a logical takeout.
About the Focus
In case you don’t know it, the Focus was first launched to the public in 1998 as a replacement model for the Ford Escort. It immediately became a huge hit. The family ride was very popular, making it one of the most popular and also best selling rides for several years ahead. Along its existence, Focus has experienced some updates and facelifts. It also has come in various body styles, such as cabriolet, saloon, estate, and also the five door hatchback.
But the SUV has dominated the market’s preference and favors, causing sedan models to reduce in sales numbers. Since people have experienced a change of heart from sedans to SUVs, Focus has been struggling hard to keep up. The auto maker has seen a viable option (and also a logical decision) to stop making the sedan altogether. In the last 5 months, Ford Kuga and Ford Puma have made it to the top 10 of popular vehicles, causing the Focus’ sales to even plummet badly. That’s why they announced that the ST model would be axed too.
What Happens Next?
The company doesn’t want to reveal the details of their upcoming production. Will they make the final Focus before discontinuing it in 2025? No confirmation about it. It doesn’t seem that they may be making the 2025 Ford Focus before they say ‘goodbye’ so we can’t really hold on tightly to that hope.
The company hasn’t mentioned their possible plan for Saarlouis plant, but they are looking for various alternatives and schemes. But one thing for sure: they aren’t planning any extra model manufacturing cycle going to Saarlouis. In the meanwhile, their Valencia plant has won the contract for EV platform process, and it should begin later within this decade. They haven’t mentioned the exact numbers of EVs would be made in Valencia.
Final Words
Again, there is no confirmation whether the company will still retain the nameplate after the internal combustion Focus stops being made. But it should be interesting if they decide to keep the name for their future electric lineup. According to the company, they won’t be selling the regular internal combustion models in Europe anymore after 2030 as they want to focus more on the eco-friendly models. We should know more about 2025 Ford Focus future if they provide more updates.
