The upcoming 2025 GMC Sierra 1500 model design may not be too different from the upcoming 2500 model, but there are some good things to expect. In case you don’t know it, the 1500 and 2500 models aren’t too much different, except for the towing capacity. As you can guess, the 2500 model has higher towing capacity, but the remaining features basically are just the same. So, what can we expect from the upcoming 1500 model?
What Happens?
The auto maker decided that they are going to make an all electric truck within the Sierra lineup. The new ride is designed to compete against Chevrolet Silverado EV and Ford F-150 Lightning, and other powerful rivals in the segment. However, the global platform seems to have an odd scheme: the United States market will get the 2024 model year as well as the 2025 one, but the Canadian market will only get the 2025 model year.
And even stranger is that the specs and features for the 2024 model in the US may not be the same for the 2025 model for the Canadian market. It’s unclear why the company came up with such a plan and strategy, but not everyone is a fan for such a decision.
Design and Style
General Motors want to manufacture electric trucks that stand out among the crowds. It means that the design language should be not only different, but also recognizable, especially from the combustion engine versions.
From the grille design, you can see that it somewhat ‘lifts’ the hood up, providing access to the front area of the trunk. There is no separation between the cabin and the body itself. It seems that the car would incorporate a unibody construction. Let’s not forget that this pickup truck would be constructed on Ultium architecture, meaning that it would have a completely new body. The company ‘promises’ that it would somewhat boosts the robustness and solidity of the entire design.
The rear area would have almost similar design to the current Silverado, so there is something familiar with the entire design. The box is originally 5 feet and 11 inches in length, but it can extend to 9 feet when the wall (separating the box and cab) is removed. If you tilt the multifunctional tailgate, it would increase the entire flat surface up to 11 feet, which is quite impressive.
Powertrain and Performance
The 2025 GMC Sierra 1500 would be having a 800V architecture, making it highly possible when you want to connect it to the regular 350 kW terminals. In only 10 minutes of charge, the car should be able to cover 100 miles (or around 160 kilometers) of distance.
What’s interesting is that the new EV would have 10.2 kW for its internal system. This one is powerful and solid enough to make electric appliances run (or up to 10 outlets). It also means that you can use this system when you have a power outage. The company even stated that you can still run the essential appliances of your household for 21 days. This alone speaks volumes of the truck’s abilities.
The claimed possible max power would be 785 Nm of torque and 754 hp, which can be accessible through the Max Power drive mode. It’s claimed to cover 60 mph within 4.5 seconds, which is quite impressive, considering that it’s a pickup truck. The Sierra EV will be coming with some driving modes: one for offroad, one for towing, one for standard drive, and one for custom mode.
Final Words
We don’t know whether all of these things are real, but we can only expect for the best. The base trim may start from around $50,000 while the 2025 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali Edition 1 may reach $108,000.
