If you have been waiting for the new 2025 Toyota Tacoma, you may not like hearing this upcoming update because it’s related to Tacoma being delayed in the making. This isn’t exactly a pleasant update because it has taken years for the next gen Tacoma to make it into production. And after waiting for quite a while, we need to wait for longer months because of some technical delay. So, it’s possible that Toyota would skip the 2024 Tacoma, and get into 2025 model instead.
Possibility of Redesign
As it was mentioned before, it seems that there won’t be any 2024 Tacoma as the company would be immediately going to the 2025 model. Unfortunately, the company hasn’t said anything about their new development when it comes to their new Tacoma, so we are basically still in the dark.
According to some sources, there would be some significant delays that will obstruct the manufacturing process of the new Tacoma. If everything goes as planned, the current model would end its production in 2023 (to be exact in August), so that the new model should go into production in December within the same year. According to the timeline, delivery may start in February 2024. Unfortunately, because of the delay, things can be postponed up to 4 months. We can’t really expect the Tacoma to be available in February in 2024. Instead, the 2024 would be the production year where delivery may take place in 2025. It’s quite unfortunate that there hasn’t been any official confirmation about the Tacoma or even the 4Runner. But the Tacoma would be coming first.
The Delay Reason
Supply chain is the main reason why the production is delayed. Due to Covid-19 outbreak, many factories were closed, causing huge shortage in semiconductor chip. The shortage doesn’t only happen to the semiconductor chip, but also for the rubber (for tires), materials (for the hard top roof), foam (for the seat), and even the blue oval badge for Ford’s emblem. Basically, the TNGA-F platform is experiencing the biggest shortages, leading to significant issues. Buyers just need to be extra patient for their new (and next) gen of Tacoma.
Powertrain and Performance
Although there hasn’t been any official confirmation about the Tacoma and its performance, there have been signs and clues suggesting that the 2025 Toyota Tacoma may be coming with inline four Dynamic Force hybrid unit. Such a powerful unit may be able to make the Tacoma strong enough to compete against Jeep Gladiator 4xe or Ford Ranger Hybrid. Both of them are expected to make it to the market; taking it by the storm. There are also rumors saying that Tacoma EV is in the process. The design will be inspired by the gas powered models, but the unique grille style will make it different.
There is always a possibility that the four cylinder unit with 2.7 liter capacity (able to generate 159 hp and 180 Nm of torque) won’t be used anymore. The Tacoma may be coming with V6 unit having 3.6 liter capacity that is able to generate 276 hp and 265 Nm of torque, which is believed to be the most promising option. It would be paired up with both manual and auto six speed transmission, and with rear wheel driving system (and also updated) coil spring suspension, the Tacoma will have impressive performance like the bigger Tundra.
Price and Release Date
Since updates about the manufacturing progress are very limited, the information about the release date and price is also limited. We may not know about the updates until the next summer months, so we will know more once more info about 2025 Toyota Tacoma is available.
