Will There be a 2025 Chevy Malibu?

The plan to develop 2025 Chevy Malibu seems to be set because there aren’t exactly many competitors to go in rivalry with. The sedan is one of the waning vehicles that go into extinction because the sedan market is no longer favorable. However, buyers who want to find a good looking (and reliable) sedan can always go for Malibu. The good news is that Malibu won’t go anywhere in near future. It may even seem that it will stay for a generation longer.

The Updated Plan

There have been rumors about the Malibu stop producing in 2024, but with the likely possibility that it stays for a couple more years have made this sedan ‘stick’ for a while. According to some inside sources, it’s even possible that Chevrolet is preparing a new gen for 2025 model. It may be constructed on the current platform, but with modified tweaks. But we still don’t know whether it’s true or not because Chevy hasn’t said a word about it, although they have been contacted.

But they don’t have to provide any confirmation because some signs are obvious enough to clearly state that the Malibu will, at least, continue to exist. The continuation for the 2025 model also depends on the (final) sales numbers for 2022, but up to October 2022, the numbers for Malibu’s sales showed a significant increase up to 148% when compared to the ones in 2021. In 2021, only 39,376 units of Malibu were being sold, whereas the numbers showed 79,799 units within only (the first) three quarters in 2022.

Design and Layout

If the new 2025 Chevy Malibu is truly manufactured, it means that there would be the seventh gen of the sedan, still coming as the mid size sedan. There are several possibilities of how the mid size Malibu would be made. It’s possible that it would be using the VSS-F platform (the special platform from GM), but it’s a platform for internal combustion layout. It also means that the seventh gen won’t be coming as a completely electric vehicle, but it will likely come as a hybrid vehicle.

There is also assumption that the new Malibu would be constructed on D/E platform, which means that the new Malibu may have a slight increase within its length. It also means that the new Malibu may reach 5 meters of size. There is a future possibility that Malibu would be the only Chevy’s sedan that has the role of full size vehicle. After all, it’s designed to replace the Impala altogether, so Malibu has several functions and roles. This isn’t exactly a new approach as Maserati has taken the same approach. They are going to replace their two sedan variants: Quattroporte and Ghibli together with a (downsized) top model.

If everything goes as planned, the upcoming Malibu may still be made at the Fairfax (manufacturing) plant. This is the plant where the current Malibu is made. According to the timeline, the new sedan may be made available in the early 2025 and the production may run up to 2031. Chevy is also busy doing another work besides the Malibu. They are focusing on the all electric sedan within D-segment although this one may be launched in China only – according to the current plan. It’s unclear whether this model would be coming to North America or not. It’s also unclear when it would be made to the market. Will the all electric model be offered along the Malibu or to replace it? It’s unclear.

Conclusion

The future of the new Malibu is still bleak, but there have been several evidences showing that it’s still in the production. We can’t really be sure about 2025 Chevy Malibu, but hopefully, it won’t be a disappointment when it gets to production.
