2024 GMC Savana Being Axed for the Future Production

There have been several flying rumors about the future of 2024 GMC Savana and unfortunately, most of those rumors aren’t the happy ones. Rumor has it that GM will replace the GMC Savana and Chevy Express with electrified models in 2026, which means that the 2024 model would be the last one ever made. If you are one of the loyal fans of the minivan, this rumor isn’t something you expect hearing.

Some Known Facts

Chevy Express, along with its ‘twin’ GMC Savana, are facing their final days. Some sources say that their time would be up to 2025 and then they are gone. However, other sources say that it’s possibly that their final days are even shorter; only to 2024 and they would be cut off.

It doesn’t mean that they would be completely gone. The company plans on replacing these duo with electric models, which are almost the same as Zevo BrightDrop 600, but in smaller capacity. The reason for the cut off is because of the outdated style. Plus, not many people would be interested in having such regular minivan design whose style dated back to the 1971s. The all new model alone took place in 1997 while the major update (for the van) happened in 2003. So, the axed down is basically expected because of the outdated style and design.

Construction and Design

Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana are basically the big box passenger and cargo vans with American style – and they are the last of their kinds. After 2025 model, they would be discontinued. And then, the future 2026 model with battery electric type would be replacing them. However, unlike the E-Transit full size van from Ford (which is using battery and electric power), the Savana or Express would be constructed on GM Ultium modular (battery) pack and EV specific skateboard chassis.

In terms of design and layout, it may be similar to BrightDrop Zevo 600 (which is all electric) commercial (fleet) delivery van although the capacity would be much smaller. Zevo 600 has 600 cubic feet as its cargo capacity, while the 2024 GMC Savana or Express would only be able to offer 284.4 cubic feet, and it is for the long wheelbase version.

The Future Plan

Ford themselves has delivered their 2022 model E-Transit. In average, customers would drive the vehicle to cover 74 miles a day, and it’s pretty impressive. The 2023 model can be ordered from now, and it even has cutaway chassis cabs and cargo ready. If everything goes as planned, the E-Transit (electric) van would be coming in 8 configurations, and they include 3 body lengths, 3 roof heights, a chassis cab, and a cutaway version.

Q and A

Q: Does it mean that we won’t be able to have Savana or Express anymore?

A: No. It only means that the regular internal combustion variant would be gone and the electric version would replace it.

Q: How haven’t we known about the release date or the price range of the new Savana?

A: It’s because they haven’t made any just yet. The company is still figuring out their best strategy about the Savana or Express, and how they can cut them off without hurting the possibility of sales value. We should hear more about 2024 GMC Savana once the company is ready to provide more info.
