As we saw the last of the Continental in 2020, there have been some rumors claiming that there would be a new 2025 Lincoln Continental. Is it ever true? Will the auto maker reconsider their option to revive the nameplate again? With so many things happening in the auto industry (including all the flying rumors here and there), it’s easy to get confused by the whole ‘updates’ and ‘news’. So, what should we know about the future Continental, anyway?
About the Continental
Lincoln Continental has been one of the best luxury sedans that simply have it all. The sedan has this good looking appearance, responsive performance, and plush interior cabin. Unfortunately, the market’s preference for sedans is going down as most buyers today like the SUVs (and even pickup trucks) better. No matter how hard the company tried, they couldn’t keep it up as the sales numbers are continuously declining.
The luxury sedan (with a tag starting around $47,000) had to succumb to production axe. The auto maker made the 2020 model as the last Continental, and they simply didn’t make anything again. They now have a new nameplate, the Star, but still….some of the loyal Continental fans can’t really forget what the sedan looked like.
The Existing Rumors
There have been rumors that the 2025 Lincoln Continental may be coming, starting from the launch of 2023 model year. Rumor has it that the 2023 model is on its way. Some of the rendering images have even circled on the net, showing off the new (and also modern take) of the sedan. Keep in mind, though, that this is only a rumor as the company hasn’t said anything to confirm the existence of the 2023 model; let alone the 2025 model.
However, loyal fans don’t really mind the rumor. In fact, they are okay if the auto maker will proceed with the new production of the Continental. There are even rendering images of what fans expect the upcoming Continental would look like, while still retaining the sleek design. Rostislav Prokop, a HotCars designer, comes up with the new design of modern Lincoln, if there is ever be one. He made the design based on some expectations of the loyal fans. He also combined some of the unique signature characteristics of the luxury sedan while adding up some artistic modern touchups.
The Imagined Future Design
It’s just too bad that Continental had to deal with discontinuation after being in the auto market for 8 decades, and while being in its 10th generation. It’s just a shame that such a powerful ride has to succumb to market’s declining. Not all buyers, after all, are into SUVs and trucks. Some of the loyal sedan fans are searching for other alternatives to the Continental. They seek out ‘comfort’ from Bentleys, Chrysler 300, and even Maybachs.
If it ever makes it back to production once more, the Continental may borrow styling cues from Jaguar with its XF appearance. This is actually an appearance that MKZ and Continental have. The rendering image is inspired by Continental 1965 with curved head lamps, prominent center grille, and rounded front. There are also some signature parts and elements of Continental itself to differentiate it from the others.
Final Words
Some sources from inside the company stated that Lincoln won’t be making any Continental anymore, at least for now. However, they are open to new possibilities and directions, which mean that there is a possibility that they want to revive the Continental later – but definitely not now. Nevertheless, having such rendering images is nice because we finally know the possible styling design of the future Continental, with the modern touchups and everything. But one thing for sure: there won’t be any 2025 Lincoln Continental. Ever.
