Will there be a new 2025 Ford Escape, after all? Previously, the company was said to have a plan to discontinue their Escape because they wanted to focus on other nameplates and models. However, it seems that the company has finally decided that they are going to keep the nameplate, but they are going to manufacture it on electric power. It means that there is a possibility that the future Escape would be coming with the electric power. So, what does the company have in store for their upcoming model?
About the Upcoming Escape
After the company debuted their Escape for the 2023 model, Jim Farley as the CEO of the Blue Oval somewhat hinted about the future of the crossover. It seems that the company wanted to stop making the crossover because they wanted to focus on passion brands and commodity products. However, it seems now that the company has a change of heart. It’s highly likely that Escape may stay for another generation, but as the all electric type. At least that’s what the company states concerning their product roadmap.
According to the rumored manufacturing schedules, the current Escape would remain in production up until 2025 (to be exact up to the 24th of December 2025) and then the company would tweak it to the EV model, which may likely start producing in January 2026. So, will there ever be 2025 Ford Escape, anyhow? It’s difficult to tell. There has been a rumor that there would be a 2024 (or possibly the 2025) Escape. But with this kind of plan and arrangement, will it be logical for them to even make a 2025 model? It’s highly unlikely.
The Future of Electric Escape
If everything goes as planned, and the electric plan is still on-going, the EV Escape will still be manufactured at their Louisville Assembly manufacturing plant. This is the place where the current ICE Escape is constructed, but it would be sharing platform with the new GE2.1 platform, which is a dedicated framework for the EV. This platform has been used by Ford Explorer, Mach-E coupe, Mustang Mach-E, and also Lincoln Aviator EF. For Explorer and Aviator, they would be constructed at Oakville Assembly plant located in Canada, NOT at Chicago plant together with their ICE versions.
It is interesting that some things do happen within this development. Aside from the general facts that the new Escape would be coming as a full electric ride, its Lincoln Corsair (which is basically the platform mate) won’t be included within the manufacturing roadmap. It also means that the future for the Escape is somewhat still murky. It’s pretty unclear for now, so we don’t really know what to say.
Moreover, sources also stated that the future EVs won’t be ‘only’ the electric version of the ICE models. It also means that the second gen would have a bit different look and appearance. In fact, according to reports, the next EV may likely come with Explorer-like style.
Powertrain and Performance
There is no information about the powertrain, but considering that the company is focusing on electrification, there is a possibility of all electric power. From the 2023 Escape, for instance, we can see the hybrid model wants to tackle 550 miles of EPA with its front wheel driving system. The PHEV model is running on hybrid unit (Atkinson cycle) with 2.5 liter capacity and electronic CVT. It’s said to generate 210 hp. Naturally, it’s expected that the new Escape would have better performance and somewhat ‘cleaner’ result.
We still don’t know much about the upcoming Escape, including price and release date. Hopefully, we will know more about 2025 Ford Escape once the information is available.
